What to put in your childrens lunch box

What to put into your kids lunch box:

A good serve of fruit and vegetables.

  • Fresh fruit
  • A tub of canned or fresh strawberries, pineapple or melon
  • Raw carrot, cucumber, or capsicum sticks, cherry tomatoes

Starchy foods

  • Rice, potatoes or pasta
  • Wholemeal of high-fibre bread

Lean protein

  • Tuna or salmon
  • Boiled eggs
  • Beans
  • Lean meat such as Beef or chicken

Reduced fat dairy food

  • Yoghurt, cheese or milk

Water

  • To keep your children hydrated all day

Healthy choices

  • Check all labels and choose products, which have low in saturated fat, sugar and salt

Nutritious snacks

  • Dried fruit
  • Rice cakes
  • Unsalted or unsweetened popcorn

Treats like chocolate should only be a sometimes addition to kids lunch, not an everyday occurrence.

However, the most important thing is to make sure your kids eat their lunch, so make it interesting, mix it up and make it as easy for them as possible. Find out what they like and twist it so it’s healthy.
